Need Photoshop Help: Save .PSD to JPeg - 04-27-2011, 09:51 AM

I've just completed a sales ad for a customer and am about to send it to print. The printer I'm using requires all files to be saved as jepgs at 300 px resolution.

The file I made is 8.5" x 10," 300 px resolution, and holds 7 pictures and lots of text. I can't get it to save as a JPeg. The only options it gives me in "save as" are .TIFF, .PNG, .RAW, .PDF, Large Format, Dicom, and Cineon.

I've tried saving it as a layered file and with the layers flattened and it still gives me the same options. I've even converted it to PDF thinking I could change the format to JPeg from there and that was a big no.

I'm learning a lot about Photoshop - I can do some pretty neat things with it - but I completely lack the ability to troubleshoot issues. I'd appreciate any suggestions ya'll would have on how to save this PSD file as a JPeg.

Try changing it from 16 bit mode, to 8-bit.
It's under the "Image" tab.

Thanks, Tom! It worked!

Sure beats the four hours I spent yesterday fighting Photoshop over the cursor style for the paintbrush and eraser tools. Turns out my Caps Lock button was on.

Just as a fyi - PS CS5 will change to 8-bit automatically when saving to a jpg. No need to go back and change the mode if you forget.
