Lightroom Comparison?

This is a discussion on Lightroom Comparison? within the Post Processing Central forums, part of the Photography Information category; I downloaded the lightroom trial to experiment with it. I've learned about presets and I was wondering is there anyway ...

Question Lightroom Comparison? - 05-12-2011, 05:22 PM

I downloaded the lightroom trial to experiment with it. I've learned about presets and I was wondering is there anyway to view two different presets applied to the same picture side by side? There's a picture I can't decide if I should do in an adjusted color or black and white and I'd like to see the two together instead of applying one preset, then removing and applying the other. Any suggestions?

Hmm, don't know about that. The only thing I think might work in this case is to make a couple of virtual copies, apply the preset, export them then look at them side by side.
What I usually do is apply a preset, and if I don't like it, just hit cmd+z (undo) and then try another one.
But there is a side-by-side, split screen comparison button of the original and the edited image.
I'm interested to see if there's a way to do this too.

In the Develop Module create a virtual copy of your image (ctrl + '). Apply your presets to each image. Go to the Library Module and select both images. Press T on your keyboard to show/hide your Toolbar. In that Toolbar select the Compare View (C).

Sonny is so smart. I'd always roll over the presets, and a tiny preview appears in the picture in the upper left of the screen. Not real helpful when you want to see detail of the picture.

Thanks Sonny!!! That is exactly what I needed! (Except I couldn't get the shortcut to work, I had to right click and select "create virtual copy.")
