Hair Retouching - 05-20-2011, 12:26 PM

Anyone have any suggestions on retouching hair? Can the flyaway hair on the top of her head be fixed, or is it something I needed to see before taking the photo? Is it too distracting?
I have PS CS5.
Thanks for any info!

Absolutely can be "fixed" if you're willing to spend some time using the spot healing content aware tool in CS 5.

And if you don't own CS5 that fix will set you back the majority of a grand.

The answer to your question is "yes" you can fix the fly away hair. The answer, "do or should" it be undertaken is a question of practicality. It would be laborsome and time consuming to re-touch the hair. If there are several examples of this in a proof set it might not be piratical to do it. You could find yourself spending hours editing several poses.

In answer to the second part of your question. Every detail that you attend to before creating an image is a detail that you won't have to attend to in editing and processing.

Thanks, Steve.
Luckily, I am a student, and can get CS5 for $199!
And thanks, the Static Guard is a great idea!

Is your avitar a D200, with battery grip, and a 70-200/2.8? If so, that's what I took the photograph above with!

at a cs5 seminar this spring,, They showed a quick way to select hair like that,, I'll see if I can find my notes for it. I can 't remember at the moment, but it involved used a brush tool, auto mask and quick select. Where after selecting the main part you just brushed over the edges to select it. It was very cool and hopefully I can read my writing.

Tom, you might check into retouchup.com. I have only used them for adding in background in team photos but some people use them a lot. I think they offer like 10 free images retouched at no cost. Might be worth a try :) Good luck. I really hate it when I get the images on the computer and realize there are frizzies that I didn't notice.

You can use the clone stamp, set to darken (for this photo) and vary the opacity to get the desired effect. Use a soft brush.
