My flower of doom! - 03-27-2007, 08:47 PM

Name is somewhat random, but it will make sense.

Anyway, Spartacus on the boards took this macro shot when he first got his 400D:

Here it is at 100% crop:

A little play with level/curves, and a lot of play with color channels and hue/saturation adjustment (one of these has a little diffuse glow somewhere):

Duplicated layer, colorized, radial zoom blur, lowered opacity:

Overlay and level matching:

Can't really complain, considering this took me roughtly 15 minutes and was very spontaneous. I might redo it someday and fix the grain and do better with some of the glow.

Would love some feedback.

very unique outcome... i would have never thought about pushing it that far.

even with that being said, i think that can definitely be something worth messing around with.

thanks for sharing.

Very cool editing, Snarfy! Goes to show what you can do with a very "normal" photo to make it really exceptional!

I find it ironic that my first picture on the forum was posted by someone other than me. Go figure! I totally dig how this picture turned out, but the background has always felt bland in comparison to the nearly-nuclear flower.

Perhaps not so much that the background is bland, just that the green, lifelike stems are odd against the flower. That's probably what you were going for, but the image could use a little more overprocessing :

haha, thanks for the comment mark. i'll consider giving the plant-stuffs some surreal coloring (or at least try it out).

nice work snarf. i've always avoided overprocessing as im a "purist" (as pure as it gets going digital) but this turned out quite well.

Well, I'm not sure you did anything to enhance the original photo but you obviously had fun playing with it... I think the original shot is just fine...

it wasnt really an attempt to make the original better; i just took a good shot and made something completely different. havent seen a whole lot like it anywhere, so i enjoy it.
