What programs do you guys use?
I've been using Canon's Camera Window to auto download my RAW files to my macbook once it detects the camera plugged in. However, since upgrading the software, Camera Window no longer seems to open at all. I tried re-installing, but no go. (??) Has anyone had this problem before?
Luckily, theres a program part of osx that lets you download RAW files, but it doesn't have the auto-download feature, nor does it know which files you've already downloaded before.

I don't shoot RAW, so I always organize my photos with Windows folders. I've tried using organizing software before, but it's so cumbersome and you never actually touch the files themselves. It's like iTunes for photos sometimes (which I hate).

I use a program called ImageIngester ( ImageIngester) to download my photos. I use a card reader and do not attache the camera. Isn't the download kind of slow from the camera to the computer?
There are a number of different devices out there the firewire and USB 2.0 device are probably the best. Into A laptop, if you have a PMCIA slot, the 32 bit readers for campact flash card is better easy and fast.

Ya know... Windows XP can be configured to do it automatically...
That is, if I properly understand this thread. http://www.instructables.com/id/EODA...VV88S?ALLSTEPS

Scott | Honestly, I can't say that Windows is slower or faster than any dedicated photo organization program because I haven't really tested it, but the transfer rates for USB 2.0 should be somewhat universal. For me, it comes down to a choice: would you rather handle the image or the file? If you don't care about the original jpeg file, I'd recommend using a photo program that interacts with photoshop, etc. If you want to manage the files themselves, as I prefer, then Windows works fine. My only gripe about using XP to browse photos is it doesn't handle thumbnails very quickly, and the Filmstrip view could be more efficient.

Windows Explorer and USB 2 card reader works wonders. I just copy the folders from the card to coorilated folder on the harddrive. When I hit close to 8 GB I then back them all up on a DVD. Works great for me and as Mark said, I get my hand on the files themselves and have direct control.

I've been using DownloaderPro ( Link Here) which works great.
Say for instance I shoot 100 photos, place the card in the reader then DownloaderPro will start and display the file names of all of the photos on the card and ask if I want them downloaded. then lets say i take the card and shoot 50 more shots without formatting for a total of 150 photos on that one card. when i place the card back in the reader DownloaderPro will know that it has already downloaded the first 100 shots and then only proceed to download the new 50 shots. pretty nifty...

I also use Downloader Pro. The 20D generates a new folder on the card for every 100 images. DLPro will download all the folders automatically which I like. I started using it after losing some images because I forgot one card folder. The latest version has support for coding location information from a GPS unit right into the image's metadata. The only problem with Downloader Pro (or any of Breeze's apps) is that they are for Windows only.

I use the EOS Utility which works for me, but it's rare that I download directly from the camera to the computer. If anything I use Wolverine, and download the images to that device, or use it as a card reader and download the files to my computer.
I am not quite happy with the device, and I mostly use it for storage. I'm thinking about spending the $$$ for the higher end version MVP-120GB .

I just put my memory card into the reader and copy them over to my hard drive, make a backup of those images and then start editing there.

I used to use the built-in download utility in Mac OS X, but I now like to use Adobe Bridge. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
