So many to choose from
The use would be for manipulation of photos and possibly getting them online but I don't think that matters.
Will it matter much between extended and design standard/premium
I had figured Lightroom into the picture and was wondering what would complement it as far as Adobe products go.

Kevin, unless you plan on doing 3d modeling, complex medical or architectural stuff, the regular CS4 should work fine. Here is the comparison between CS4 and CS4 Extended from the Adobe site:

Oh and start with Lightroom. I only go into CS4 on a few pictures now where I have to clean up skin imperfection in portraits or clone something out of the image or do some special effect that I can't do in LR. A great training book on getting the most out of LR is Scott Kelby's Lightroom 2 for Digital Photographers. Well worth the price in time saved.

I don't think I can get CS4 but might have "to do" with CS4 extended. It is payback time for sending him to school.

Now you have your sisters kids, they qualify for Adobe educational discounts.
Steve, do you shoot( with a camera, lol) birds/landscapes? I don't want you to think we have forgotten you.
