EXIF for Mac with Snow Leopard? - 02-19-2010, 12:49 PM

I read the thread about saving JPEGs so that others can read the metadata with VIEW EXIF. I downloaded that software, but I can't seem to make it work. I have a Mac with Snow Leopard and I think that is probably the problem. When I right click on an image, I get the menu option to view exif, but when I try to open it, I get a window that says "JavaScript Application, get RegistryEntry isn't available." Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

"Thread" may have been the wrong word. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, on the righthand side there's a bullet list of "How To's," it's the 4th one, "Save JPGs for Forum Posts." It has the info and a link to the download site.

It looks to me that Opanda IExif & IExifPro are Windows Programs so that shouldn't even have installed on your mac.
  1. The way I know that works is to go here and download Firefox.
  2. Once that is installed go to Tools then Add-ons.
  3. At the top click on "Get Add-ons" type in the search box FxIF.
  4. You'll have to restart your browser.
  5. Find a picture online right click the picture and hit properties and the exif data should be there unless they were stripped out.
  6. If you wanted to look at the exif data on your own pictures without putting them online, I would suggest using Adobe Bridge. It came with PS and is not bad at sorting through your pics. But it's not called exif data in Bridge it's called metadata.
If I've confused you in any way just tell me and ask away.

Thanks, all. I followed all the instructions and I'm getting closer, though I still can't get it to work, except for photos on my desktop. I am using Firefox and the Snow Leopard tar ball, but when I drag an image from the Forum to the Exif icon, I get either a window saying "No or Invalid EXIF information" or I hear a low tone (boop) and the image just snaps back to it's original spot and no window opens. I tried it with some of my images on the Forum, because I know I didn't strip the metadata from them and the boop tone is all I get. Sorry to be so inept.

Joan,

Did you download the simple viewer?

I added the icon to my doc and its basically just a camera. I drag images to it straight from safari and it works like a charm. I don't use firefox much on the mac. Quick solution could be to just drag the image to your desktop then into the exif software?

Dragging the image to my desktop first and then to the camera icon (I put it on my dock too) works! Thanks much. Jonathan!

I know there is some other exif viewers out there that work but not sure of the names off the top of my head and never really liked them.

Hmmm, on second thought, I think I'll take that back since I'm going to be on a bridge this week with a bunch of Canon users, and I'd like to come back alive - yikes!!
