Trying to learn Photoshop - 03-17-2010, 05:14 PM

Or is it Photochop (as in my case)?

Sara and I went up to the North Coast for our anniversary a year and a half ago.
Some of you may recognize this photo.

I always knew that there was a way to pull the ocean out of it so it wasn't so blown out. But I never knew how.

Along comes the Scott Kelby 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop book.

I know it needs more work, but here's literally a three minute edit.

Yeah, I hit the small bush on the right a little too much around the edges, hence the halos, but was curious to see what it would do. :w00t:

Thank you.

Actually, it's the book for CS3, but everything applies.

IS there one for CS4? I guess I should look on Amazon or something for it.

I mentioned in another post the book I like for photoshop. "Photoshop Color correction" Written by Michael Kieran.

Why I recommend this book is that is is about the mechanics of how color correction works. It also talks about sharpening and resolution. With that knowledge, it doesn't matter what program you use. You can tweek out the best in your photos with Photoshop 1.

My theory is, and correct me if I am wrong, to become fluent in the language, not to just learn the key phrases.

after that...just buy the Photoshop Bible...to learn about the other tools that photoshop offers.

Thanks, Crystal. I'm going to get it. If nothing else, at some point I'll have a great library.

Kelby's Seven Point book is fantastic, IMHO. It's worth the time doing the lessons. I've found his Photoshop Channels book to be a great help also.
