digital photo professonal black raw files - 07-06-2011, 09:25 PM

When I try to open the RAW files I took on my Canon G9 in DPP it just shows them as black squares. When I double click to make them larger I only get the option to search online for a solution but it doesn't fix anything. I am using windows 7

Please someone have the answer, some of my better pictures from my trip to Ireland are showing as black squares. They are still visible on my camera

Is it possible that the version of DPP (Digital Photo Professional?) doesn't support the camera version that you have?

Do you have any other photo editing software (lightroom, photoshop, paint shop pro, etc) that you could try in an effort to isolate the problem to either the software or the raw files?

I tried CS2 and I guess I do not have the plug in for canon RAW files. I do not know how to check to see if my version of DPP supports the G9, nor could I find out how to update it or get the latest version to dl

Glad I could help. I know how terrifying it is when your trip photos are in jeopardy!

Luckily I shot most of them in jpeg, but the ones that I wanted to go back and fiddle with latter were the ones in RAW

Yes, just a upgrade issue on the viewer/editor. Same happened to me when I got my new-to-me Canon 50d, PSP showed garbage. I diodn't realize that the RAW file type had changed from my older 10d. Upgraded PSP and no problem.

What clued me that the files were in fact ok and that the issue was PSP was that I could see them fine on Picasa (of all things!). Not much of an editor but handy and free. Saved me a world of panic.
