B/W conversion of Carlsbad Cavern shot - 07-30-2011, 01:04 PM

I think the color may detract from the image in these underground shots -- the rock is fairly uniform in color, and the major color differentiation is due to color casts from the artificial lighting.

I usually strongly prefer color over B/W shots, but I think in this case, the B/W is a lot stronger.

The conversion was done with Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 -- Preset: High Structure (Harsh). Using the 15 day trial now -- going through older photos now and trying to see if I like my favorite shots in B/W enough to plunk down $200 for it.

I'm interested in what you decide. I've debated if I want to spend $200.
I hope you will post some more B&W conversions.

I'm going to do more -- I have a few others I think would look good in B/W. The question is, whether I could record an action in PS to give the effect I like, and save $200.

I rather put that money towards Lightroom and use on of the hundreds of free presets.
