SOOOOO I was looking into monitor calibration stuff and my HUSBAND seems to think there is probably an open source equivalent that is good enough. Is there? Can you direct me to links and such for information that tells me either way concretely?

I can buy a decent enough one for under $100 according to my research. I just need my hubby to quit being so cheap

You need a colorimeter. That's a piece of hardware. Last time I looked it was sort of hard to get "open source" devices

If accurate color is a priority so that your prints come out like they look on the display, then I'd suggest you purchase a decent device. I use the X-Rite Eye One Display 2.

Good luck!

Yes, you do need the hardware. If you found some hardware, but are running linux or don't have the software that came with it, you can check out ArgyllCMS. It's what I use for software: Argyll Color Management System Home Page

Rena; I use the Spyder 3 Pro and find it to be fast and easy. If you want to setup ICC profiles for your printer you will need something like the Color Munki..
