CS3 freezing up when running Topaz b/w - 09-04-2011, 09:27 AM

I just bought and downloaded the new Topaz b/w effects and everytime I use them in CS3 my whole program freezes up. In fact even when it does finally run, it's very very slow.

I bought Topaz Adjust a year ago and never had this problem with it. What could be causing it?

What are the specs of your computer?

Have you tried to reset the pref file by opening up cs3 while hilding ctrl+alt+shift.

Have you contacted Topaz labs support? The couple of times I called they gave excellent support. My thought is that since it is a new plug in there could be conflicts with the older Adobe software, but their spec page suggests it works with CS3.

Windows XP, Service Pack 3
7750 dual core processor
2.71 GHz, 1.93 GB of RAM

Rich, have never tried resetting the preference file. Don't know anything about it, but I'll try that.

Scott, my next step is contacting Topaz. Appreciate it.

Rich, I tried that but it just opens up a box called CS3 Properties, mainly for making a shortcut. Now what?

How to Reset All Preferences to Default in Photoshop | eHow.com

You are pretty light on Ram and PS is very ram intensive. How big of file are you editing?

Also, I just used another Topaz product and pretty much hoggs all my cpu. Since yours is dual core and half the clock speed my guess is that you are running into "you just don't have enought HP to run it

So it sounds like I need more RAM except that I've already maxed out what my computer can take I've been told. Bummer!

Wrong, you might have maxed the slots out but if you are running XP (I doubt you have the 64 bit version) 4 gb is the max (you will only see 3.5gb)

48 bucks doubles your ram. Newegg.com - Mushkin Enhanced Silverline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model 996760

Do you have a dedicated video card? You should because if you do not, video eats into ram.

Newegg.com - XFX HD-667X-ZAF3 Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

This should speed you up. However, your pc is pretty old/slow.

Oh wow, thanks Rich! I'll check into that. I'm a computer dummy so any help I can get is much appreciated. My computer is a bit old. There's always something to buy or upgrade anymore. :(
