Adobe Policy Change - 11-17-2011, 03:17 PM

This is part of an Adobe Blog I saw on another forum. If this has already been posted, you will have to excuse me and help back on the "Golden Age Manor" bus. I'm always a day late and a dollar short.

"For customers who prefer to remain on the current licensing model, we will continue to offer our individual point products and Adobe Creative Suite editions as perpetual licenses. With regards to upgrades, we are changing our policy for perpetual license customers. In order to qualify for upgrade pricing when CS6 releases, customers will need to be on the latest version of our software (either CS5 or CS5.5 editions). If our customers are not yet on those versions, we’re offering a 20% discount through December 31, 2011 which will qualify them for upgrade pricing when we release CS6".

Bound to happen at some point. Regardless, I'm perfectly happy with CS5. Don't think I will be upgrading anytime soon.

I have CS4 and I was going to upgrade to CS6. With the new policy change, that can't happen. So, I ordered CS5 and I will keep that until they announce CS7 and then I'll have to make another decision.

Just further proof that Adobe is being run into the ground.

With the death of Flash, and eventually, Acrobat... the spiral has already started.

I sure hope competitors are taking note of all of this and planning accordingly. A few years ago, the thought of Adobe going out of business wasn't even on the radar. Now, it's a very likely prospect and as Adobe customers we'll need to be preparing for this.

Because there are a lot of losers that have no character or honor and feel entitled to software for free because they can figure out how to steal it.

Or maybe Adobe has to increase pricing because so many people steal it, use it for profit and never pay for it, which keeps them from recouping the considerable cost of continually making really great products even better.

Just think how cheap it would be if EVERYONE that used it paid for a copy.

in reality that wouldn't make a bit of difference except to their profitability as a company.

I think on one of the news feeds I saw an Occupy person whining about software costs....This was right after they ranted and bang their drum about the rising costs of the 5 dollar footlong.

Yeah sorry Tom I think I have to disagree on this one. Kinda like, imagine how cheap gas would be if everyone paid for it? Oh wait...

edit: and yeah, this is bad news for me. I'm on CS4 right now. I plopped down a hefty sum for CS2 and then upgraded to CS4 when it came out. Now, I don't think I'll be upgrading at all since Adobe is being all PS-nazi and stuff. "NO SOFTWARE FOR YOU! NOW GO!"

You think it is inconceivable that Adobe would have kept raising prices so high if everyone had actually paid for it?

There are a lot of worthless dirt bags happy to steal their work.

If everyone always paid for it, they would have always hit their goals of profit at a lower point and would have had more money to develop more or wouldn't have had to charge as much so that it would appeal to a wider audience.

But it is a fantasy world where jerks wouldn't steal just because they can. Karma will get them.

The government doesn't inflate software prices.

I do think they would have raised it so high. Companies have to keep raising prices to make more than they did last quarter. But i just looked at the Adobe site, $350 for CS5 isn't bad. Upgrade is $99. Still not bad. And the whole CS Collection is like $550. Not that bad if you ask me.
A lot more than I'd like to pay, but still not that bad.

I don't believe Adobe is raising prices due to piracy. That would only encourage more piracy IMO. And I think they would know better than to punish their legit clientele for douche bag pirates. I could be wrong though.

EDIT: I have to edit this because I was seeing upgrade prices for the entire collection. The full CS collection non-upgrade is $2500. Yikes.

The Adobe site where I purchased the upgrade was $199.00 with a 20% discount. Where did you find it for $99.00.
