Ok, I bought a bunch of marketing templates, and now I need to edit them so they all follow a cohesive Color scheme and use the same few fonts. The books I have don't go into much detail regarding documents. Can someone recommend a tutorial or text on basic graphics work in photoshop, or someone that does it for a reasonable fee.

Most templates I have worked with you open them in photoshop and then work with the layers of the templates. Come to think about you didn'y say what kind or describe the template so hope this helps.

Steve, I can open the template in PhotoShop, but I have yet to figure out how to access the text layer and change the fonts, and my books are all about manipulating photos. I bought a logo from one company, a marketing set from another, and a senior marketing set from a third. I want to modify the color scheme and use it across all three, and use the logo fonts on all of it. I also have Facebook and Twitter templates that need the same. I'm sure it's not insanely difficult, but I need something that will walk me through the basics, or an affordable graphic artist. To make it more fun, I then need to add the same theme to my website, and come up with a transparent logo watermark. As I'm sure you know, great pictures only carry you so far. Effective marketing and a professional image are almost equally important.

To change the text layer double click the T icon on the layers palate. This will open the text layer for changes. You can change the font, color, size anything.

One of the best sources for PS information with Photography is Scott Kelby's NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals). Well worth the fee. They cover almost everything a photographer would need.

Sometimes you can go to YouTube, search for what you are looking for and find some good videos. You will also find a lot of junk there too, so be careful.
photosteve and Flores like this.

So which is more useful, a NAPP membership and access to their archives, or a Kelby Training subscription? Can't yet justify both...

I have been able to find everything I want with a NAPP subscription. Since it seems you are new to PS, I would start there first. Dive into their archives and look for what you need now. If you need more you can move on to Kelby Training.

Why not start with YouTube first. It's free and you should be able to find anything.
