how to post process like this?

any idea or tips on how to post process an image to look similar to this? I just love this style!!

First you'd have to get the lighting like that. Looks like he's using more than a couple lights there.

the lighting is probably simpler than you think. it's a lot of p-shop techniques, i doubt it just plugins. its a mix of HDR techniques, and a lot of "dodge and burn techniques"

There's actually a crucial step missing (don't know if he did that on purpose) but half of the fun is figuring that part out yourself.

And I would disagree with Marshall and agree with Rick, I see what looks like 5 light sources (not counting the background light), add in the fact that he is shooting with a $4,000 camera (and that his other camera is at least $40,000!) I think its safe to bet that he doesn't skimp on the lighting either.

Its a flash technique mixed with tone mapping. There is flash on all sides to freeze the subject then you just tone map it. And as arich said a nice camera doesnt hurt.

I'm sure that someone using gear like that isn't using any actions or plugins. Just keep playing around and hopefully you will find something that makes you as happy but is different :)

Actually a lot of pro's use plugins. If a plugin gives a look you want or can speed up the process to get the look you want then it would be dumb not to use it.There has been in depth discussion about this on Scott Kelby's show "The Grid"

I didn't say that pros don't use plugins. I'm sure a lot do/have. I'm simply saying that my opinion is that (after looking at this person's 500px) the pp is probably not a plugin.

Agreed. The dodging/burning is brushed into the actual highlights and shadows of the photo. An action or filter won't do that
