Basic Questions about On-Line Labs Profiles & CS2 - 06-17-2006, 03:48 PM

Trying to pictures for the first time.

Want print out 4x6s to stuff into photo albums and give away.

Monitor is calibrated with a Spyder 2 on a pc.

Raw converted in DPP, tifs to CS2 were editing is done in sRGB. Ready to resize to 300 dpi & sharpen.

Saw this thread about Adorama prints ( http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=23743 ) and the price is right so downloaded their ICC profile.

When I assign the Adorama profile the color drastically changes (saturation is reduced).

1) What’s wrong with my workflow? Should’ve been editing in Adorama profile?

2) Do I need to mess with Adorama’s profile or will telling them not color correct be good enough?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You don't want to assign the profile. If anything, you would Convert.

I haven't looked to closely at the Adorama Print service but it may be that they're expecting sRGB and the profile is just for proofing. In that case you do not want to Assign or Convert... rather you would use the ICC for soft-proofing to get an idea whether there were any problem areas in the image that you might want to deal with before submitting the image for printing.

From what I understand, I second Jeff's advice. Also, it may just be that you have some vivid colors that are just out of gamut for the adorama printers. That happens to me all the time with Costco--especially very vivid reds and bright greens. Their printer just can't replicate these colors, so when I proof their profiles, they aren't shown, and look "dingy" relative to my original.

You may be doing everything right, in other words, that may be the actual saturation levels you'll see from the prints.
