Just started using Photoshop CS2 and have a Question!! - 06-27-2006, 03:29 PM

Just loaded Photoshop CS2 and started using this last week. I had used the Trial Version for a couple of weeks just to do some basic Picture Tweaking. But Here is what I am going to use it a bunch for!! See Attachements for Examples. I ordered The CS2 Classroom in a Book to hopefully help but I am pretty much in the dark on how to even start.
The attachments below is something that I will have to be doing for Houston Raceway Park. Can Someone help guide me in the right direction here please???

What specific help do you need?

Usually, when making posters or layouts like this - Indesign or Illustrator would be a better choice than Photoshop.

Looks like nothing more than a lot of different fonts and layers. You can find a lot of free fonts over at http://www.1001freefonts.com. For the background effect i'm sure you can find a way to do it here http://www.good-tutorials.com

Yup, I 2nd that. I use InDesign for things like this. You can also use Photoshop for the background effects and such but InDesign is best for layout posters, flyers ...

sonny,
yes you can recreate it in photoshop and thats not a problem, but theres a reason its called PHOTO shop and not inDESIGN and ILLUSTRATor ... these programs are geared more towards layout and publication than to photography and effects. time and energy would be saved by going with indesign/illustrator combo route. again though it all depends on what the person is comfortable with. like my old pappy used to say ... same ca-ca different smell. : P

There is nothing wrong with using PS to layout posters, flyers and such, if you are comfortable with it. But like Sonny already stated above, InDesign & Illustrator combo is excellent and a time saver if you can afford it. Those 2 tools are designed specificlly for designing ads, mags, down to posters & flyers. Of course for a simple poster or flyer, you can even use MS Word, but the main diff. will be the professional look on it.

Just like my photography skill, my skill on these 2 combos are mediorce at best, but I do find them faster than PS when I have to layout out ads for a small local paper.
