Question Photoshop glamming help - 08-31-2006, 11:00 AM

I need help with photoshop -

How do you smooth out the face in photoshop to give her the glow of smooth skin? How do you glam up the face to make them look like there really isn't bags under her eyes or too many shines from oily skin?

Can anyone give advice on this subject or part of it.

I'm not an expert by far, but a recent tutorial I watch showed that the healing brush does wonders for those bags under the eyes. I'm not sure about the oily shine though.

Here's a technique I have used with success:

1) Open image
2) Create 2 new layers (name them Hi and Low or whatever you want)
3) Now click the original layer and do a luminosity selection (alt + ctrl + '~').
4) Copy this selection into the Hi layer
5) Repeat 3, then inverse selection
6) Copy this into the Low layer
7) Now, do a Gaussian blur on the Hi with a radius of about 20 (really depends on the photo)
8) Repeat 7 on the Low layer with half the radius
9) Merge the 2 layers, then go to the filters and add a little Gaussian grain to the blurred/merged layer
10) Copy the background over the newly created layer and use some masking to let the adjusting layer show through

This works great for removing fine lines and eye baggage.

I heal whatever blemishes there are, try and clone or smooth out any skin color issues (blotchyness and such) then I use Noise Ninja.

I'll have to get some self portraits and try that out. Thanks Stevil.

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

Use the technique I listed above, but when you start creating the mask, use a largish brush size with really low opacity and fill. You want the slowly build the mask. Pretend you're applying makeup to your model.

I purshased this plugin. http://www.asf.com/products/plugins/...uginAIRPRO.asp It is awesome, though I tend to do manual settings to keep from getting the "plastic" look. I do not have any before and after, but here is an example: http://www.a2rob.net/picts/Carissa/_dsc1786.htm
Been using it for about 1 year now and love it...

I have this plugin, and it is very good and easy to use. I like it for doing quick edits.

I find that a layer mask with the Kodak Airbrush works very well for me.

Take care with the blend level and you can get very nice results.

Thanks guys, I have some pageant head shoot photos to edit and the shine is not acceptable - this is what I needed. I'll let you know how it goes - some before and after photos- wish me luck.
