I downloaded the demo and it seems to have some interesting options. At first glance it looks like an all-in-one fixer (not unlike the automated 1 hr. photo lab machines).

Opinions? I feel like I need more mad PS skills and I'm willing to buy them

Could you clarify what the "interesting options" are to you? What do you feel it would do for you, that can't already be done in CS2?

Because after reading the description on the website, it doesn't seem to do anything "automatically" except to set a new black/white point in the second part of it's process. Everything else (based on what I read, as I didn't download the demo) seems to involve some user interaction... such as choosing/setting a grey point, adjusting brightness/contrast/saturation and then a hue adjustment.

Though it mentions batch processing, and being able to record the color corrections as Photoshop actions, I don't see where it would really speed up someone's workflows... As you can already do all of those things in CS2 with an adjustment layer and record the steps as an action.

Since most of your images are taken in a studio environment... I'm guessing that you could record your corrections (in CS2) for one image, and then run that action for the rest of the images from that particular setup/shoot???

For me, it just doesn't seem to be worth the $100 price.

By interesting options, I mean the ability to modify several key parameters in a single plugin without having to create an action. I'm well aware that I can do all of those individual adjustments in CS2, but I liked the ability to see their interaction at the same time in the preview without being sequential in nature. In other words, sometimes I like doing some processing in a different order to see the effects of another downstream filter.

This approach is sort of like the 'all in one' stereo vs. a component based system. Of course the Nik Pro Sharpener is most likely going to do a better job since it's a single purpose tool, but maybe the all in one is better for every day type images.

Always looking for a better mousetrap

Scott,

I use their iCorrect Portrait app and am reasonably happy with it. Never tried this one though..
