Cross Processing - 01-17-2007, 11:44 AM

Most really gritty, kind of rough looking photos I see are said to be "Cross Processed". What is it? And how do I do it using CS2? Is there a certain type of photo that works best to start off with?

Any help is appreciated.

The term 'cross processing' comes from the days of film and chemicals and refers to processing one type of film in the chemicals designed for a different type of film.

A similar effect can now be obtained in SW by changing the different color channels by various amounts. Search the forum for 'cross process' as well as 'urban acid' for different examples. The Urban Acid action from ATNCentral is pretty popular these days.

Here is a tutorial on doing the same effect manually using the Curves function in PS or other tools.

Just a FYI, the Urban Acid action was created by a TPF member: Steve Almas (Evil4Blue), how cool is that? Check out the sticky thread on PS actions, filters, plug-ins.

I think you'll be OK, they have a thin candy shell. I'm surprised you didn't know that.
