I called the 800 number. The guy said that the email offer is sent out to purchasers of new Canon cameras that came bundled with Elements. The code in the email is how Adobe gets credit from Canon, I guess for the rest of the regular price or some part of it. Oh well I will just have to get a student to buy it for me. So what's the difference to them anyway?

This sounds shady but it isn't - on ebay there are a number of sellers selling CS2 for around $300, I got it for 275 plus shipping. The way it works is they sell you a previous version that is legit and comes with a valid unused serial number, along with the factory sealed CS2 upgrade.

I just got mine and installed it yesterday without a hitch. You install the previous version, (in my case they sent me an OEM French/Italian version 6), then you install the CS2 upgrade.

There are a lot of sellers selling this as a package, make sure you check feedback before you pick one.

Thanks Cliff. I just placed my order. I hope my transaction goes as well as yours did. I chose what looked to be a very good seller. Ebay is foreign to me.

After my computer crashed and I had to reinstall my CS2 update I was able to just intall the update without first installing the full version of CS. During the CS2 upgrade install process it did ask me to insert the original CS CD to validate the upgrade.

This was on Windows...but you probably already knew that since I said my computer crashed.

I got CS2 from Ebay and I must say I was very pleased with the outcome of the entire transaction. It arrived two days after I ordered it. I received Photoshop 6.0 on one disk and installed it using the valid serial#, thank goodness, that was on the case. Then I installed the new, factory sealed, CS2 upgrade to end up with the full and current software. It all turned out fine, is registered in my name, and running great on my Windows PC. I paid $300.

I just ordered the upgrade a few minutes ago using an uninstalled copy of Elements 2.0 that shipped with my 10D. I registered the software under my name and then called the 800 number. I just told them I had a Canon camera and a registered bundled copy of Elements. They did a lookup on the serial # and gave me the upgrade.

I ended up going a similar route. I couldn't find a package deal like you did (I needed it for the Mac), but I did buy a full copy of PS 6 on Ebay and bought the CS2 upgrade from B&H. Final total was around $300.

Also note that PS3 is currently in beta and will no doubt ship fairly soon. The last CS->CS2 upgrade was $150, so depending on if you care, you might want to wait and just buy in to the next version. Though that can be a neverending wait, but it seems like CS3 is only a few months away.

Good point, Gordon. I decided that I wanted to get a CS2 immediately rather than wait for CS3 to go GA (it could be months). I'll upgrade when they release CS3. The OP may not have had the same time constraints as me so hopefully he'll consider it.
