How do I get rid of flood light? - 02-18-2007, 10:28 AM

Hello all,
I have a green background and shot a portrait picture of a couple, I like the shot except for the green background. I've tried changing it to this blue-ish color and all is good except that I have some green flooding. It is most apparent on the woman's hair on her shoulder. I've been trying to get rid of it but I haven't really been able to, is there any method that anybody knows that would help me get rid of that?

The image is attached

Thanks!

On the picture as you have it, the solution is very easy. I converted the file from RGB to LAB. Then I wrote a curve on the A channel that flattened the channel to zero everywhere from +1 to about -10. (Green lies on the negative side of the A channel in LAB). I picked these numbers because I didn't find anything greener than that.

Then I used the blend if sliders to limit the change only to those portions of the image that were A negative on the underlying layer.

There are other ways to pull the green out here. You could probably do it as well with the Hue/Saturation sliders. The important part is to limit the effect only to where things were green. I did that with the Blend If... sliders on the A channel in LAB.

Looks good. And isn't it cool how little effort is involved?

There is still a hint of green in the ladies hair. it's right where her body and his body meet.

yeah, i think there's still a really SLIGHT hint of green on the hair over her shoulder...::sigh:: I have to keep playing with it.

Thank a bunch though! I wouldn't have been to figure that out by myself! That was a completely new process for me :)
