I just ordered Alien Skin Exposure, primarly for the B&W conversions (I love the JFI profiles with C1 but just hate C1's work flow when it comes to folders.).

Anyone have favorites, any tips on using it? Does it sit up it's own correction layer or must you do that? Does it have any hasty habits to be aware of?

I should have it Monday.

If you have school ID, Academic Superstore is paying shipping on it which makes it even with sales tax a better deal than Compus Tech with 15 dollar shipping and no sales tax.

I guess it depends on what you're shooting, but for portraits, I love the grain control. I usually start with one of the standard film types, then fiddle with the curve, grain, and filters until I achieve what I want. Then you can save it as a new setting.

By default it applies the filter in a new layer but you can turn that off. You can adjust the layer opacity in the filter and it uses that for the newly created layer.

It really is a fine product IMHO and worth the cost. Have fun with it! I'm hoping that I get a universal binary upgrade when CS3 hits later this spring. Faster would be good too!

I shooting for gritty PJ style pushed Tri-X look. Duncan's classic Life Tri-X, D-76, 70degrees 7 minutes.
