The Photoshop CS2 Book For Digital Photographers (Scott Kelby) is a good quick reference for all kinds of things (including whitening teeth).

Pg 300-301, select the teeth, feather the selection as needed, use the hue saturation control on yellows only, pull down the saturation and pop up the lightness.

Now go buy the book :)

I use the fluoride/bleach action from ADA.

:)

Actually.. similar as above.. or use the Kubota tools action for Eyes brightening/Teeth whitening.

*Mike*'s teaching a photoshop CS2 workshop in a few weeks. I'm sure it'll have stuff like that in it. The main thing with teeth is not to make them stark white and shadowless. I've seen them stripped down so that teeth look like cartoon smiles. We use layers, do a little de-saturation, and slightly whiten, so its subtle.

Scott Kelby's book is great. Until I opened it, I new absolutely NOTHING about photoshop. I have learned so much over the last week and a half! I've taken back about half of the things I said about how hard photoshop was to use. Maybe over the next month, I'll take it all back!

They are basically prerecorded set of commands in PS. You can record your own (repetitive tasks), or download them (many free), or purchase. They just simplify things more than anything.. And SPEED things up a lot in some cases.

Photoshop Help. - 03-17-2007, 07:58 PM

Your very welcome Mike. That what I like about this forum. Everyone, no matter what their level of skill, is willing to help other members. I'm no expert, but I read everything I can about photoshop and love to play around with it.

If you have ever looked at any of the fashion magazines around you will notice the things that draw your attention to the person in the photography is the mouth (teeth) and their eyes. When you find time and have the right photo, enlarge it to about 200%, click on the dodge tool. set the range to "midtones" and the exposure to about 16%. Use a small brush and paint over just the whites of the eyes. You don't want to make a fast change, that's why I set the exposure low. You can release the mouse button and paint over the same area again until you see the whites lighten up.

At this point, you can refer to the previous tutorial and use the "edit in quick mode", paint over the eye brows and the entire eye area. switch back to the previous mode like in the tutorial, click on select, then inverse, the apply a small amount of USM. I use an amount of 85, a radius of 1, and a threshold of 3. It usually really makes their eyes look good.

If you do each of these retouching changes on seperate layers, you can go back and adjust the opacity slider if you over do something.
