Sounds like your file associations are set up for elements. (if this is a windows machine). There are a couple of ways to change file associations. One is in Bridge itself.
Launch bridge, press ctrl+k to launch the preferences window, scroll down to select jpg, on the right side of the window, select the down arrow, then browse. If you want the jpegs to always open in bridge, select bridge in that browser window.
Bridge should now open as the default application whenever you launch a jpeg.
The other option is to open an explorer window, select tools, folder options, file types, then scroll down to jpeg. You will see entries for jpeg and jpg. You should change both of them. Select change, then select the program you want to open when you launch a jpeg/jpg. On my system, Bridge does not show up in the "Open with" window. You will have to browse to the folder that the Bridge program is in, select it and then select okay.
You may have to restart your computer after doing either of the above so your OS can update the registry settings.
Easier that the above is to just download your files to a specific folder, then launch Bridge and open the folder in Bridge. You should be able to see your files then.
