ICC profiles for Macs - 04-18-2007, 08:20 PM

alright I'm sure this is already answered out here somewhere but I didn't find it. I just got my MacBook Pro and I have it calibrated but when I print on Mpix my prints are extremely warm. I did a batch with color correction and a batch without but both seemed really warm to me.

What is the best way to get consistent color from my screen to my prints? help

Does MPIX provide printer profiles to download? If so you can load the profiles and use a color aware program like Photoshop to proof the pictures with the printer profiles. The bible of color management is Bruce Frasers book - http://www.amazon.com/Real-World-Col...6949285&sr=8-3

Are you editing on the MacBook Pro LCD?

If you are, that's most likely why. Notebook LCDs are terrible even when calibrated. Move your head from one side to the other while looking at an image. See the color and brightness shift? It doesn't take much to make your image turn out wacky.

And by calibrated, did you use a colorimeter or just the Apple on screen method? If it's the latter, again there's your reason.

Color management is serious business if you really want WYSIWYG.

The book John has suggested is an excellent reference. Read it, love it, live it.

You need to place the profiles in the system ColorSync folder. /Library/ColorSync or your home directory/Library/ColorSync.

Restart the application and your new profiles should be available.

You select the profile when you are doing the final print prepartation in Photoshop. There's nothing to view. It's a translation table. ICC Profiles are for ink sets, papers and printers not human eyes or monitors.

A less taxing book than Fraser's (it is however required) is Rodney's book on Photoshop and color managment.

Also remember a print is calibrate to be viewed under 5500K light.

Alright I'm probably asking some really dumb questions but its my understanding that the icc profile could be used to get a visual representation as to what the printer will produce before its sent to the printer?

Would a book store around here have these books or is this definitely going to be a mail order situation?

A store might but Amazon is your best way or have your local library get them on inter-library loan but in the long haul you'll want your own copies.

Here's what ICC profiles are and aren't.
