What are the best CS3 resources? - 04-19-2007, 09:08 AM

I am a relatively experienced PS Elements user who finally read the tea leaves and has upgraded to CS3. I am looking for the best resources that I can find to expedite the learning curve on this new and powerful beast. All suggestions are welcomed.

You might consider joining NAPP, National Association of Photoshop Professionals. They have a ton of tutorials to learn PS.

you can get a lot of the stuff from NAPP on itunes. Download the photoshopguys podcast. A good resource however is to get a good book from the "Classroom in a book" series. Or maybe something from Scott Kelby. Scott Kelby is usually easy to follow, but lacks some of the technical backing. The problem with saying any resource is good is that photoshop has too many tools to have any one perfect solution for education. I would pick up a book on raw, curves, and color management. All of which have changed at least a little in CS3. NAPP is a waste though, because a lot of the stuff that is on their website is for previous versions of photoshop. However, if you have a strong understanding of curves and raw from CS2 you should be able to move around CS3 okay. If you want videos I think Lynda.com has done some stuff for CS3 already, and softwarecinema.com has some good stuff as well. They also have videos from Dean Collins that are amazing, and very dense with lighting info. Hope that helps.

Go through the tutorials on this website:

http://www.russellbrown.com/

Even if you have no desire to learn what the tutorial is actually trying to teach you, you will learn mountains of information during the step by step process that you can apply to other techniques.

If you're looking for reading materials I imagine that anything written by Scott Kelby would rock. His CS2 stuff has helped me learn that product pretty well.
