windows thumbnail question - 04-21-2007, 07:57 AM

I cropped a photo with PS and put it in my done editing folder. A few days later, I'm looking through my done editing folder and I noticed that the thumbnail image that windows creates looks like the original. I double click on it and the image looks edited. Can anyone tell me why windows shows the original but when I open the file (JPG) it shows the edited version?

If no one understands what I'm getting at, I'll create a screen shot of what I'm seeing.

I am sure it has something to do with it creating a hidden thumbnail file when you first viewed the folder. It is just reading off of that thumbnail file. You might have to enable "hidden files and folders" and delete that file.

The folder only has edited images. The original was pulled off an SD card, so it was never on my machine.

Some times when I open the folder, it gives me the edited version. When I refresh, it goes back to the original. Oh well.

Try this:

In Windows Explorer, go to "Tools" in the Menu Bar. Open up "Folder Options" and then "View."

Check: "Show hidden files and folders"
Uncheck: "Hide protected Oper. system files."

Click "Apply." Close and reopen Windows Explorer. Now, in each Win folder there should be a "Thumbs.db" file visible. Delete these files wherever you want new thumbnails created.

Go back to the two default settings you changed in the "View" step above. Close and reopen Win Explorer. At this point the thumbnails in the selected folders will be established brand new by Windows.

Good luck.

I don't think windows re-freshes the thumbnails automatically. Right click on the thumbnail and select "Refresh Thumbnail"

Best regards,

Yeah, I did that already before I posted here. I'm giving up trying to figure it out.
