CS3 Install Problems - 04-22-2007, 04:31 PM

I tried to install CS3 today, and was unsuccessful . The image below is the error message. This is an upgrade from CS2. I did not install the beta version of CS3, so there was nothing to remove prior to the install. The pc has more tha enough disk space (240GB) and memory (1.5GB) for the install and usage of CS3. The PC is running Win XP with SP2. I have searched the various Adobe supoort forums for suggestions - nothing works. So unless someone on the TPF has a sugestion, I will be waiting until Monday to contact Adobe. FYI, they have a 800 number (800-642-3623) for this issue, but its available on M-F 6am to 5pm PST.

Open to suggestions.

Not sure that it would matter but you might want to make sure you have virus scanning disabled/not running before you try the install.

John, Thanks for the suggestion. I did forget to add that prior to the CS3 install I did disable the anti-virus software that was running (and also the firewall software).

Have you tried a reinstall? I would give it another try to see if it corrects itself.

Allen, Yeah I have gone through a couple of install, repairs, removals, and install again - same error. The Adobe install error message does little to give me a clue as to what to do. No error log tht I can find to provide any clues. From the Adobe support forum, this is an issue that is not unique (but not common), but no known fix that has been posted.

I'll post what happens after I contact Adobe support.

I had the exact same problems. Most likely from my old install of CS3 beta. But not like the uninstall and cleanup tool helped at all. But I finally got it to work. I found the answer off of Adobe's forums. I had to edit my boot.ini from /noexecute=optin to /noexecute=AlwaysOff, then I rebooted, then turned off my virusscanner, then ran the Adobe's Cleanup tool. That removed all that old crap. After I did that, it installed without any problems.

Man talk about a long installation, this one program took longer than my CS2 Creative Suite(the whole package).

Try remove the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD\cache\cache.db and this one too C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\backup\caps.db.

Darktiger, I'll tryout your method this evening.

Sonny, I did delete/remove the two files (cache.db and caps.db), however that did not fix the problem.

I have not had a chance to call Adobe today - had several people call in sick today so I am filling in.

I finally got CS3 to install!! After speaking with the Adobe tech support, it came down to removing ALL Adobe products (i.e. CS2, Acrobat, et al). Then I re-installed CS2 (and all the updates and my plug-ins), and the installed CS3 (still need to install the plug-ins for CS3). Then re-install all the other Adobe programs I had been using.

Once the Adobe web site, they have a program that will clean your system of the CS3 beta version (the uninstall apparently does not fully remove the beta version): www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html There are two documented options 1 and 2 for different clean-up removals (CS3 only and CS3 plus Adobe Reader 8.0). After speaking with the tech support, there is an option 4 that removes ALL Adobe product. Warning: If you go this route, the best thing (this is from my most recent past experience of using this option) is to go through the normal Windows removal of all the Adobe programs (via the control panel), and then run option 4 to clean out the various bits of junk that are left behind. This is a cleaner uninstall as far as Windows environemt is concerned.

Hope this helps those that have come across the same problem I did on the CS3 install

Mark,
I skipped the beta version of CS3 as well (never installed it) - there was something with one or more of the other Adobe products that was causing the install problems with the install of the production release of CS3. Looking at the Adobe support forum, the issue I had is not uncommon (other people are seeing the same problem).

I am happy that I got it installed and can start working with it!! The install problem was drving me batty (more than normal).
