I use the paint with light action ..... it is fairly simple just paint white where you want light and paint black where you want shadow .......I find it looks better if you start with a lower opacity like 15-30 % and build it up

I'm trying to do this
02-07-2007, 11:58 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's something for you experts to try.

End result:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=12149990

Technique?:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=12369718

1. make a duplicate layer and run a heavy denoiser and sharpen.
2. Use PWL (original) from http://www.atncentral.com to add light and shadows.

3. combine layers...hold the Alt key while clicking the right arrow in Layers palette and Merge Visible.

4. Play with USM (unsharp mask)...not to sharpen but to bring out heavy illustrated look.

5. Duplicate layer and open Shadow/Highlight...play with all sliders to add more to the illustrated look.
6. Use the Smudge tool for an even more painted effect.

That's it. The rest is editing to taste (more PWL, Hue/Sat. etc.).______

It's from the post processing inspiration thread..... It seems like it should be totally easy, maybe I'm not doing something right.....

Ok, heres what I see when I run the action- perhaps its not installed right?
I have the origional background layer, a paint light layer set to color dodge and a paint shadow layer set to color burn. I currently have my brush opacity set to 100, as well as the layer opacity, but when I move 'paint' over the image I dont see any change. Any help?

The links you posted dont work...
I use an action called Paint with light II

It gives me one layer set to Soft light filled with 50% gray ......you paint with a white brush to add light and paint with a black brush to add shadow
