making stripes - 05-29-2007, 11:40 PM

My sister-in-law just asked me to put together a little something for the photos I took of my niece in her dance recital costumes. She wants a pink and white striped background with a border and some text. How can I make perfect, evenly-spaced stripes across the frame? I know I could just use the rulers, make selections, then fill them in accordingly, but there has to be an easier way. BTW, I have CS2. Thanks.

Do you have the sqaure brush set loaded? I would use a square brush on a new layer with view grid on pink color selected click on a grid line holding shift down click on opposite side and continue till you have the lines you want. Also you can use the shape tool on a new layer select line and the pixel size with your color selected then you can copy your layer and arrange your lines and can play with the spacing. Remember to hold down the sift key to keep your lines straight and smooth.
I'm sure there are even easier methods.

Filter, Sketch, Halftone Pattern will get you a black and white striped image. Select the blacks with Select, Color Range and fill with pink. When I selected the blacks, I didn't quite fuzz it enough and it left a (pleasing to me) small black outline of the pink.
Or, custom shapes has a diagonal stripe pattern that you might like.
Free transform either as you like.

Wyatt, this is for the background. If all I have is a blank white page, how is a filter going to produce lines? Also, I'm tying to make fairly large stripes (half inch or so). After I make the background I then plan on placing the actual pictures on top.

Well, just run it. Really, it will make stripes. Depending on resolution, it's limited to 'bout 1/4" stripes. But you can free transform the heck out it : ) The custom shape maybe more to your liking size wise. And it makes whatever color your foreground/background is set to. But then you gotta rotate.
I did forget: set the drop down to "lines" in the filter. It'll make squares or somethin' otherwise.

Well you got me there Wyatt. It does work. Don't know how, since it was a plain white pallette, but it does. Thanks.
