In the past it appear that unless you were shooting in very controlled conditions it wasn't worth it. But now Chomohalics have a system that is free and works under must all conditions but tungsten which takes a different calibration.

I've ordered a GTM color chart and am going to try it...

Luminous Landscape is running a three part series on camera calibration, the last frontier for a fully color managed work flow.

That script has been available in beta form for a couple years now, we've discussed it here in the past. IMHO this calibration method works better than trying to create a camera profile as some other packages support (which really is just about useless outside of a highly controlled studio).

Watch the saturation numbers though, the script will produce saturation settings that when used with real world images tend to produce over-saturated images. This is because the tonal controls on the Adjust tab are applied after demosaicing and can have a big impact on saturation. The low shadows/contrast settings the script uses for the test chart cause it to be undersaturated, so the calibration routine ends up compensating for that. It's the Hue sliders that really matter.

The new verison appears to work well. Tom has improved his site with welcomed additional information about the script and its uses. There is also a forum to post to. I created two profiles, one set at daylight and the other at tungsten. The calibration helps the anemic reds of the 1D2.

What Jeff (the ACR God) said.

BTW, I was able to calibrate my FujiFilm S5 Pro all by myself this time thanks to Jeff. I must confess to using his numbers for both my D70 and D200 :wimp:

The 'new' software rocks and runs very quickly on my Mac Pro with ACR4 and PSCS3
