Cool Bad Drive and Free Stuff! - 06-10-2007, 08:13 PM

I don't know if Holly mentioned it on here, but we had a drive fail recently... So, we packed it up and shipped it off to ESS Data Recovery. Total Bust. They weren't able to retrieve anything. Nuthin'!

Bright side, they threw some software in the box with the drive when they sent it back. Ever hear of "Klix?" Apparently, it's just a $30 program... but, has anyone ever tried it? Worth having around? Or is there a reason that they throw it in for free...

Just curious.

Thanks!

Interesting Mike. I've never used it or heard of it. I personally use Photorescue and have had great success recovering images off both corrupted and formated CF cards. Never tried it on a hard drive though.

I guess you could always format a CF card of USB drive (After copying the files of course.) and give it a try.

my friend accidently formatted her memory card at the very end of our trip to puerto rico ... hers was the camera that had all the people shots on it from everyone in our group ...

she took it back to her place in new york and they all tried a bunch of different softwares and such to recover the data ...

unfortunately the software didn't work and the data was never recovered ...

i'm left only with vague (and i mean vague) memories of the people i went down to puerto rico with ...

I've tried ESS twice with the same results as you, Mike - zero. Maybe I should set it on fire next time. I've seen some of their ads that show a burned notebook, they retreived the data, blah, blah. Yeah, right...
