Need Help in CS2 from Nikon Raw File - 06-11-2007, 11:23 AM

I took a picture of the back of a Race Car trailer with the car in it and the door open. The guy I took it for is having a wrap put on his trailer door to make it look like he is traveling down the road with his door open and the car inside. Anyway, I sent the Raw file to the Graphic Designer with the NET extension on it burnt on a CD. He is trying to open the file in Photoshop CS2. Am I missing somethiong here?? Why can he not open the file, modify and print?? Need Help!! I just don't do enough in raw to know the answer!! The Wrap will be 64 sq. ft.

Photoshop cannot read RAW with out the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in. I believe it is built into Adobe Bridge. He will need to open the file in ACR first, and then save it to a JPG or similar file format which PS can work with.

I also assume you mean NEF.

probably would have been better if you had adjusted the image in ACR then saved it as a TIFF...that way he would still have most of the original info and could easily edit in PSCS2, but for now, as it was said, he needs Bridge/ACR to edit the file...

He may need to go here and update his camera raw plugin. With every versjon of PS i've used since ACR came out, it should open automatically with ACR if he has the latest version installed.

I ended up downloading the trial version of CS3 Extended and saved the Raw Files as a PSD File which they can work with. They ended up being about 25 meg at 240 dpi. Since then I have ordered a CS3 upgrade to my CS2. They really have some nice new features. Thanks for all the help. I just don't do enough in Raw to know any better.

Better to use tif format as PSD's created in CS3 may not read in older versions of PS.
If you do use PSD's make sure the option for compatibility with older versions is checked.
You can enable that in options
