depending on what you paid for, that may be your only option. The viewer is basically just a slow show. Your best bet would be to check with the photographer and if you need images for printing, pay the appropaite charges if you already haven't

Probably not - at least not legally. I doubt that the photographer would sell you a CD with all of his/her copyrighted photos and allow editing and printing. To get prints probably costs extra.

So, to avoid unknowingly breaking the law, you really need to check with the photographer (as suggested by Nathan.)

I think you just hit a sensitive area with most folks on here...

The 800$ that you already paid your photographer was for his time, knowledge, equipment, etc...

From there, the prints you like will cost more.

Depending on what the event was, he probably spent 2-3 hours, right? His equipment cost him money, and then after the photos were taken, he took some additional time (probably 4-6 hours or more) to review each photo, discard those that were not good, and then ensure that the light, colors, composition, etc. were all as perfect as he could make them.

Now, for him to print those pictures, at a professional lab (not off a consumer inkjet printer, or at a drugstore), he will have to incur additional costs - and spend more time. This is why the cost of prints goes up.

You were probably made aware of all of this prior to him accepting the job...

Talk with the photographer about how long he keeps the images he's created, and if you don't have the budget to print out all of them now, pick out a few that really stand out as memories from the occasion, and have him deliver them as prints. You can go back to him later and ask for additional prints, or the rest of the prints as money allows.

What you've described is typically the way things operate with professional photographers. You need to call him to see what your options are. He holds the copyright to his work.

Like what has been said many times look at what your contract said. A CD slide show or browser is not the same thing as a CD of high-res images. And yes, this is a very sensitive subject for many of the users on this forum. People do make their living do this. And if you do take the images off the CD and it was not suppose to be done you are basically steeling from them (their copyright) and it is really no different then me walking out of Best Buy with something with out paying.

But just go over the contract and look over what was agreed upon. If you have questions give him/her a call.

Even if you can figure it out it is not likely that you will find anyone to print them. Copyright is Copyright and there should be no way around it. And if the photographer finds out that you are doing this he/she can take you to court over it.

If you understand it's illegal, why do you keep wanting to do it. Looking for the experience of being sued and charged with a Federal crime?

You've put all this in a public forum, so the case would be just too easy....
