Post-Processing Help - 06-24-2007, 11:06 PM

I was able to get some aerial pics a few weeks ago and I'm still doing some processing. It was a pretty hazy day, but that correction is fairly simple. One of the problems I have is correcting windshield glare through part of the picture. Attached are the "before and after" images. A simple fix is to just crop part of the picture, but there are other images where that's not really an option.

I'm open to any help.

I don't think I could do any better than you did on correcting the haze. Nice photo.

Great job in post-processing a difficult picture for the haze....in my view, I might be tempted to crop from the top as it does not add much to the picture....

Also, for some creative purpose, you might want to apply either a warming filter in photoshop or an orange color gradient mask layer on top of it and change the layer property to overlay (or something similar) for some sunset type light....if I get some time tonight, I might be able to work on it..

1. Color Correct the image,
2. Set black and white points,
3. Set neutral point,
4. Add 50% Gray layer (soft light blending mode) ; add mask and darken in reflection area.

I possibly should have lowered the contrast a little, these very low resolution images will get contrasty too quickly, but this is just an example of removing the bad areas. Also, I left just a shade of a magenta shift ( I wanted it a little warm), but you get the drift. I hope this is sort of what you had in mind..

Thanks for the replies. I'll try 'em out and post some when I'm done.

I did just crop that original photo, but there were others that cropping really wouldn't work. Here are the before and afters of another pic.

Thanks for the help.

Oh! And just as a point of interest, all that farmland used to be the Mississippi...a long time ago. At its largest point, it was about 10 miles wide.

i think you figured out why the pros shoot with the window open!

i wonder, though....would a polarizer have fixed that?

I always try to shoot with the window open, but the folks at Continental Airlines tend to get upset when I do that

The windows in this little plane didn't open. From what I understand, a polarizer would've helped but I don't have one...yet. It's on my wishlist!
