WACOM: Graphire or Intuos - 06-25-2007, 05:16 PM

Intuos or not to Intuos...that is the question.

My favorite mouse's scroll wheel has bit the dust. I went out looking at mice...and the cheapest one I found that I liked was about $40-$50. I figured that I might as well get a WACOM tool and be even happier.

But I can't see the difference bewteen the Graphire and the Intuos.

Any have experience with either and suggestions on which to get?

I've had both and the Intuos is by far better. You also can get it in the 6x11 size which is perfect for most wide screen displays. The mouse is better. The pen is better. There are some extra controls that really make Photoshop work nicely.

They are quite a bit more, but I really like my Intuos. YMMV.

Yep. Intuos definitely. The pressure levels are better, the UI is better... it's just better.

I was going to buy a Genius tablet but decided to wait and get a Wacom instead of eventually buying both. I just got a 6X8 Intuos on Friday. I have nothing to compare it to that is more recent than 15 y.o. but this thing rocks. Editing portraits is a breeze with the pen and my wrist isn't sore after a long editing session. I'm still getting the hang of the buttons and such but will probably like them as well after I reprogram them to do what I want.

Also, I have a 20" monitor and had to reduce the active area on the tablet to get it down to a comfortable size for quickly moving from one side of the screen to the other with the pen.

Another vote for Intous.

I use a 6x8 with dual wide screen monitors and the size and stroke are perfect for me.

other than the added pen pressure levels, the Intuos has a better "feel" of the pen on the tablet. The Graphire is much slicker, and I didn't like the way the pen tracked on the tablet (had one for over a year).

I had the Intuos 3 6x11 tablet... It was nice. Never used it much and sold it to Scott Watters (up above).
