Brushes off the internet - 06-30-2007, 06:18 PM

Hi TPF'ers, I need your help! :)

I found some brushes online that were free to download for Photoshop, (I use CS). What I can't figure out is how I use the brush once I have downloaded it. I don't even know if I saved it to the right area on my computer. Can anyone give me some direction here?

Thanks!

probably if you have CS installed on C then they go here
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS\Presets\Brushes OR
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS\Presets\Brushes\Adobe Photoshop Only

i hope lol
you may want to do a search on your computer for *.abr

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS\Presets\Brushes\Adobe Photoshop Only is where I put them so I am on the right track, but I think they dl as zip drives so when I try to open them from CS (using the little triangle icon and then load brush) they don't show up as options to open.

If they're zip archives, you'll need to unzip them. Windows usually has an unzipper built in - just double click on the file.

Because I frequently look for brushes while I'm working on a project I created a separate folder on my C drive and named it Photoshop extras, then I have subfolders, actions, brushes, shapes etc. If you put the download right in the program folder you have to restart the program to use them. This way after downloading them I can choose the tool in this case brushes- open the flyout menu and choose load brushes then direct it to the folder that I created for the downloads. This also comes in handy when I get a new computer and have to reinstall the program as it only installs the default brushes, I just move the Photoshop Extra folder to the new C drive. I then frequently choose restore default tools, just cause I like to keep things clean.

I finally got it guys!! Thank you all for your help. It was the "extracting" reply that was the key to my confusion.
