Lack-luster color issue - 07-06-2007, 08:24 AM

I know it has been discussed, and I've read the previous threads, BUT, I am still having this issue:

When I post pics to my website or to blogger, the color automatically drops right out of them. Blue skies are no longer as blue, and sharpness and contrast goes buh-bye. I am working in sRGB, but am a CS3 moron. Maybe I have not changed the color setting correctly? Help guys! I'm super frustrated!

I have the same issue with blogger. My color is noticeably different in blogger than when posting to the forum or my galleries.

Could this be an Adobe RGB vs sRGB issue or is it the same photo?

I don't think the color space is influenced by the web program, but rather by the browser. So I am thinking out loud.

I "think" all current major web browsers are color profile aware, but not all programs
are. Case in point Photomatix Pro just became color managed. I would check blogger's website for color magment issues.

On the contrary, Safari is the only colorspace-aware browser that I know of. That is why you should always make sure that the images you post to the web are in sRGB, because anything else probably won't be displayed correctly in most people's web browsers.

To Amy's original question, you say that you're working in sRGB, so that eliminates one potential cause of this problem. The other main issue is that Photoshop is using your monitor profile when displaying images, while the web browser isn't. So even when displaying sRGB images, they could look different in the web browser. How different they look will depend on how much effect your monitor profile has on the display; with a well-calibrated monitor the profile shouldn't have too much to do, because the idea is to calibrate the monitor itself to be as accurate as possible before creating the profile.
