Adorama is at $129, B&H is at $116. This is a "standard" package many use. I have the first version, never upgraded. When asked about color calibration this and Gretag MccBeth are the first suggestions. So yes, its a good program and device and at a good price.

My choice is the Gretag McBeth Eye-One Display 2.

As far as the PrintFIX Plus, if you do not use odd papers and media that standard profiles are unavailable for, this will be totally useless to you and a pain in the butt to work with. Stick with media that professional profiles are produced for and you will always get fantastic results.

I have used the PrintFIX Pro and the profiles are difficult to produce and hit and miss on the various media. I profiled Epson Premium Lustre Photo to see if the PrintFIX was better or not and after several tries it was obvious the Epson supplied profile was superior!

Any calibration is better than nothing. I have owned both the spyder and eye one2 the later is better and easier to use, but both do a good job if you take your time.

I have the Spyder II and I just recently switched to the Eye One2. The Eye One2, in my opinion, is hands down a better colorimeter. It does things that the Spyder II doesn't.

I have never calibrated any of my monitors. When I shot film, my color lab did all color correction. That was a good plan then and it is a good plan for me still. They calibrate their monitors daily and I am pleased with the final results. If I were printing my work that would be a different story. Even Ansel Adams had others printing his work. YMMV
