NoiseWare - 08-12-2007, 11:18 PM

This has probably been asked before, but if i may, which is a better noise ware between "Noise Ninga" and "Neat Image"? I would like to purchase one, probably the professional version but I just don't know which noiseware software to buy.
From anyone who has used either one or maybe both, is it just a flip of a coin or is one really better than the other. I could probably download the preview but i would still like to hear someones opinion of this software.
And is it better to get the plug in for CS or the standalone?
Any help someone can give me will be appreciated.

Armondo -

Of all the reviews and discussions that are scattered throughout the web and elsewhere on this forum as well - the bottom line between these two products is pretty much boils down to a personal preference as to how much you like which interface.
They both do an excellent job - one or the other occasionally a hairs-width better on one type of image than another depending upon the circumstances. The difference will be how you feel and are personally comfortable with the interface and controls to the program.
Both do a good job and either one will come highly recommended.
The preference to a PS plugin will again be whether you prefer to utilize the functionality in a digital workflow or as a stand-alone program. Again - personal preference.
Myself, I like Neat Image and would recommend the both the plugin and standalone.

The neglected third contender among these three is Noiseware. I've been using it and am amazed at the results. It's also very easy to use. This is one of those areas where you can't really go wrong. It seems like everyone who uses one of these programs loves the one that they are using.

Yup, pretty much personal preference. I have Noise Ninja and NoiseWare. I find that for my use NoiseWare is my first choice. Most of the time the results are pretty much the same, but every once in a while there's an image that one or the other handles better, so it's helpeful to have at least two of the three on hand.

Like Bill I also have both but usually use Noise Ninja first then go to Noiseware. They both work great and each will work better in different situations.

I've never used Neat Image but I tried Noise Ninja and NoiseWare in demo mode at the same time. There was very little, if any difference, in the results. I went with NoiseWare because the interface suited me better. I think it comes down to which interface you prefer.

I am happy with Noiseware, but I have not tried any of its competitors.

Thanks everyone for your comments and Sonny i will surely check out those links. From the feedback it sems like the best thing to do is to download the trial versions and see which interface i am comfortable with. I wasn't specific on what i wanted to use the noiseware for, but i will most likely be using it for some sports images where i have to use a high ISO such as 1600.

Honestly, I don't think you can wrong with any of the noise reduction softwares. It's all a matter of personal preference. Good luck!

Which of these can be used in photoshop using layers? I would like to be able to selectively apply noise reduction to some stuff using masks and layers, if possible

All of them can be used in PS layers. Then apply a layer mask.
