Will CS2/CS3 overwrite CS?

This is a discussion on Will CS2/CS3 overwrite CS? within the Post Processing Central forums, part of the Photography Information category; I finally re-located my CS2 and 3 disks and I"m wondering if installing either will completely overwrite CS. I"m worried ...

Will CS2/CS3 overwrite CS? - 08-18-2007, 11:11 PM

I finally re-located my CS2 and 3 disks and I"m wondering if installing either will completely overwrite CS. I"m worried about losing all the actions I've collected over the year.

Ideally I want it to install in a directory of my choice and let me import the actions and test them in the latest before scrubbing CS...can I do this?

I just realized the CS2 is CS2 Lite v.9.0.2

No, it shouldn't overwrite previous versions. You'll need to start up CS and export/save your actions out, then import/load them in CS2 or CS3.

Of course it will over write all of your saved PS actions.
Copy the folder to your desktop and then put it in the new version. Do this for all presets, such as brushes, etc.
Then you will be fine.
Bill was correct about exporting them. I just wanted to make it clear that if you do not back up your customized settings, plug-ins, actions, etc - they will be lost.

Okay... It never has for me, though. By default each version installs into a different directory and you can run older versions after installing newer. However, I do agree that you should export/back up anything you really want before installing the newer version (or any other software, for that matter).

Never has for me either, always makes a compleyely new directory and doesn't touch anything from the previous version.

Better safe than sorry though.

Erica,

I have been using CS (not CS2) and just got the CS3 suite last week. If you use the suggested path for it, the install goes into a different folder. On my machine the old one was "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS" and the new one is "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS3"

I just copied my old actions from CS to c:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Actions\

and then loaded them and I now have my actions in CS3:)

Best regards,
