I cannot get this picture the right color. Can anyone fix it? It's either too red or too green no matter what I do.

It would make a great BW. I tried and she was either to yellow green or red.

When I looked at my tweak on a calibrated monitor it looked blown out. I like your second much better.

Thanks! I must have just done something wrong in RAW before. I have no idea what, though!

The second one is better but still seems a little off.

You may want to tweak the eyes, teeth and complexion a bit. More detail could be spent on the stray hairs.

Hey Rachel,

I'm sure Andy is much better at this than I am, but I gave it a shot. I used a combination of the dodge tool and clone tool around the whites of the eyes to remove the redness. I also used the dodge tool with a very low opacity on her teeth and the tips of her fingernails. Then a did a little bit with a PWL action to bring out the shadows and highlights. I also used the highlights and shadows sliders to bring out more vibrance.

EDIT - It looks like I did a little too much PWL around her left eye.

I just use the lasso tool around an area and then use a Hue/Sat adjustment to reduce redness (eye) and yellow (teeth) and then in each tool increase the Lightness slider to brighten then so they look realistic. In this case I also made a slight Gaussien blur adjustment to improve the complexion. I only removed it with a mask over the eyes and mouth. If I were to spend more time on it, I might leave the blur only on the cheek that seemed to need it, but I'd want to play with it and see what seemed best.

I like the shot and I like the angle.

Work with your reds, and greens on different layers then recombine your photo. This may get you closer to what you want. With the red hair and green BG it becomes difficult to fool the eye. Try toning the green down first on one layer then work with your reds. Good luck. Hope that helps.

I took a shot at this.

I applied the green channel to a new layer in luminosity mode, and then excluded the red lips, which got too dark, using the blend if sliders.

Then I wrote a set of curves taking the bracelet as black and the shirt as white. I adjusted the curves to make the skin tones reasonable -- more yellow than magenta with about half the cyan.

Then I went to LAB and applied the A and B channels to themselves in Overlay Mode on a duplicate layer, bringing opacity down to about 20%. Then a very light high resolution, low amount sharpen on the L channel, followed by another USM line sharpen of just the dark areas of the image (trying to focus in only on the hair eyes and bracelet).

Hope you like it.

Duffy
