A coworker sent me this link earlier today. This is pretty amazing technology. Mostly for landscape photographers, but it has a use for portraits and weddings as well.

That's seriously cool!

I'm sure Adobe is already bidding on exclusive Plug-in rights.. that should be worth a few ducats to the inventors..

I fail to see how this helps one make a fine print?

A print is to me the goal of image making. All other is secondary.

I don't believe anyone claimed that it would.

For you this is fine, for a great majority of the rest of society, this isn't so.

Radio was fine at one point. Analog audio too. Time marches on...

I was expecting to see a technology for very high quality up rezing for very large prints instead its a way to display an image in a veiwing medium with a very limited gamut and resolution.

This is a case of technology intoxication rather than a real grain in quailty, IMHO.

John,

The facination on my part is a little more global than a printed image.

I find the mathmatics required to analyse a digital image's pixels, determine a "least energy" (which is VERY subjective due to the number of factors which could be a least energy limit) state a thing of beauty.

That this group has found a way (at least in theory) to take a subjective thing, make it programmable, and have the application it does is simply a marvel of our modern times.

In relation to imaging, it has the potential to be an amazing tool for digital image manipulation.

On a more practical note, yes - it helps resize an image that's viewed on an LCD, Plasma, or CRT monitor. This can also have it's uses in the business side of what we do (without reguard to the reason why we do it -be it love, insanity or money).

In reguards to technology intoxication...

Are you saying these images are not print quality?
