CS3 is not able to process my RAW files from my 40D. I'm rather bummed as that is all I shot on my vacation. Now they are stuck in limbo.

Does Adobe not have the latest RAW update ready to download that would include the 40D?

I second DPP, which should work fine for you until the new ACR release.

Third for DPP. You might end up using it in conjunction with ACR when it comes out

Hi Jennifer,

I was just getting familiar with ACR and now have to learn DPP in order to get my 40D files processed. Maybe I will like DPP?

Me too. I really liked ACR. I hope they come out with the driver before the end of next month. I am going on a week long workshop to Big Bend. There will be topics on post processing with ACR - sure hope I can use the new camera.

thats part of the reason why i havent jumped and bought a 40D i am waiting for the acr update and the little hic ups that come with new products. i also want to hear first hand reviews over listed statistics. things often look great on paper but when put to use in real world situations things change. so im waiting to see if its worth getting or just settling for a cheaper 30D. .......

Why would you think they would? The camera was released less than a week ago. Adobe has to get their hands on one and see what changes are needed. And of course there's the fact that they release new versions three or four times a year. They're probably due in the next month or so, though they might decide to hold off until they've gotten their hands on a 300D, D3, and 1DsIII...

You can convert your RAW to DNG and then process as usual.

Really? The DNG Converter supports the new 40D files? If this is true (I don't know, I don't yet have a 40D to try it) I would think that ACR support is right around the corner....

I was under the impression that the DNG Converter used Adobe Camera RAW. In that case the 40D wouldn't be supported until an ACR update.

Sorry, I thought the DNG converter for the 40D was already out. At least with the MKIII, the DNG converter update came out before the ACR update.

Adobe - 09-05-2007, 10:47 PM

Don't know if you already have this fixed or not but here's what I did. I got the new updated plug in from adobe and it worked. I am using a 40Dx and it created NEF files and the new plug in recognized them. Before I downloaded the new plugin CS3 wouldn't recognize them with the current plugin.

Here's the link. All the cameras and PS versions supported are listed. Hope this helps.

It's not Lightroom, or ACR, but BreezeBrowser author Chris Breeze just released a beta version of BreezeBrowser Pro which supports the 40D, at least in part. Check it out at www.breezesys.com.
