have you configured photoshop in the options ? You maybe need to go in and point out where the application is, set up how you want to edit the files etc ?

That is what I need to do I'm sure but um... how do I do that. I am using lightroom with limited knowledge and Scott Kelby's book open.

In the Preferences dialog box, on the Mac it is Lightroom > Preferences, I think on PC it is Edit (or File) > preferences, click External Editing and make sure the options for PS CS3 are selected. If you have CS2 you can choose that application in the Addional External Editor area.
