Love LR. I can get the majority of my work done within the app without Photoshop. Ever since version 1.1, the app has been rock solid and very fast. I am quite happy with it.

lightroom will resize pics.

i work mac and prefer ease of use in Lightroom to Aperture. i downloaded free trials of both, and lightroom was more what i was looking for. they are very similar in capabilities!

If you want to crop the the tool is in the bar toward the bottom of the page. Just to the right of the crop too is a pull-down that will set specific aspect rations. The lock button will lock to the aspect ratio or unlocked allow you to crop anywhere.

If you just want to resize and not crop - you have to export. There will be options for resizing and res. in the dialog.

In either case nothing is changed to the original image - you can go back and recrop, remove the crop or whatever.

I use Lightroom (PC), but have to say that the DAM is awful. I use Expresson Media (formerly iView MediaPro) for DAM.

You can install Presets which are the lightroom equivalent of actions. There is no concept of 'layering' in Lightroom so typicaly PS actions do not work there.
