I need some suggestions on a good but "gentle" book to read for photoshop. I am learning. I have just gone digital 1 year ago. I have a Canon 30D and I about got it under my belt. Now it's time for photoshop. I do most of my photography outside. Thanks, anyone! rivy

Probably one of the best books I've read is "The Photoshop CS2 Book for digital photographers" by Scott Kelby. It's a fun read, he doesn't take himself to seriously.

I don't think you'll get a better recommendation. You might try Half Price Books or Amazon but few people give up their copy once they buy it.

Books authored by Martin Evening including "Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Photographers"
http://www.martinevening.com/

Books co-authored by the late Bruce Fraser including but not limited to "Real World Adobe Photoshop CS2"
http://www.peachpit.com/store/produc...321334116&rl=1

And of course anything authored by Scott Kelby.

Scott Kelby is great.
I am no longer afraid of what to do in CS2. He gives great examples and instructions + starting points for those of use who are new to CS and would not know where to start otherwise. His books are also fun to read as you learn.

Kelby is good if you like pure recipes with basically no explanation.

I'm going through Martin Evening's book now, and it looks to me like it is probably good for beginners, but it might be a little dense.

Another good choice would be Eisman's book on Retouching and Restoration.

And don't forget that there are lots of great tutorials floating around the web.

Another thing that helped me was watching video tutorials online. There are a ton of them out there on Youtube, Cut Frame TV, and the Phaunt Actions web sites.

Oh, and I ditto Kelby's book.

I don't know what edition you have of PS but Kelby has done one for ver 7, CS2, and CS3. All are great.

I agree with the idea of tutorials. One of the best I have found is at YouTube. It will give you a good exposure to retouching photos and to using layers. It is Here

Best to you

Kelby just putting out recipes is the best thing to help me understand what to do in CS2. I pulled some old photos out today that were shot in RAW and saved them. They were just sitting there until I had an idea of where to start. Thank you Mr. Kelby
