printing a 20x30 standout - 09-19-2007, 06:23 PM

I am preparing a print for my friend/client. She wants a 20x30 standout and I have never printed anything over an 11x14.

I know how to do it, don't get me wrong but I am nervous on how it would turn out.

I then sized it to a 20x30 @ 300dpi.
My problem is what I see when I view it at 100%. I know that's not going to look exaclty like that when I print it but the quality isn't very good.

So my question is... Is this going to be fine at a 20x30 print? I usually sharpen my pics before I print but would I sharpen this one?

If anyone can help me that would be great!

I do all my post work to the print including sharpening, then lastly size the picture to what the client wants. When you print a file this big and look at it at 100% it will look slight pixelated most likely because of post work. I have printed countless 20x30 size prints with my old D70 at 6.1 megapixels and they look GORGEOUS in print. You'll be fine with 8.1 megapixels. Beautiful photo. I can see why they want it in large. Don't stress, it'll turn out beautiful. I'm assuming you're going to use a professional print company for this as well?

So yeah that was what I was seeing... pilxalation in the sky and that's when I started to get worried.

Thank you for responding! After reading this I feel better!

Modern digital printing uses resizing programs that you and I can't even comprehend.
I have made many 20x30's from this size file, and they are great. You'll be happy !

Thank you Tom! I now feel confidant that this print will be fine! I was just concerned because of spending all that money then it be pixalated.

I'm so glad I asked!
