Noise reduction software - Which one? - 10-07-2007, 01:45 PM

I could use some help with night high school football, especially shot on a dimly lit field where it requires ISO 3200 @ f/2.8 to get 1/400 sec shutter speeds. My gear list consists of a Canon 20d and Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 lens.

What noise reduction software would you recommend? I don't have Photoshop. I have been using Paint Shop Pro 11.

I have been considering Noise Ninja but don't know if I need the Standard edition or the Pro edition.
Your thoughts appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

I use Noise Ninja Pro and have been very happy with it.

Do you shoot in RAW? If so you might want to consider picking up a copy of Bibble. Great RAW processing software and it comes with Noise Ninja built in.

I use Noiseware Professional version. It does a great job in my opinion but I expect if I used Noise Ninja Pro I would be happy with it as well. Visit the website http://www.imagenomic.com/nwsa.aspx for Noiseware. They even have a community version you can download and use for free. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Thanks for the links, Sonny. I've downloaded the Noiseware programs one at a time and like the Pro version best because I can save custom settings for repeated use at a later date. The program was easier to use for me than Neat Image.

Here's another thumbs up for Noiseware Professional. I've got some night shots that I took from a moving boat on a river in Guilin, China. After using Noiseware, it looks like they might have been taken with longer exposures from a still platform. I'm very impressed. But from what I've heard, the other main competitors are equally remarkable.

I use Noise Ninja with great results.

It is important you load the correct Noise Ninja camera/ISO profile for the image before correcting.

I use to use Noise Ninja, but lately I have been trying out Imagenomic Noiseware.
